The Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory

The Royal Commission and Board of Inquiry into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory was established on 1 August 2016 to enable the swift inquiry into the treatment of children detained in detention facilities and child protection in the Northern Territory.

It was the job of the Royal Commission to uncover where the systems had failed and make recommendations on how to improve laws, policies and practices in the Northern Territory to provide a safer future for our children.

The Letters Patent formally appointed the Royal Commissioners, the Hon Margaret White AO and Mr Mick Gooda, and outlined the terms of reference for this inquiry.

A historical record of the Royal Commission and Board of Inquiry into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory website is available on the National Library of Australia's Trove Web Archive where a list of website snapshots is also available.
